NOF's National Accountability
NOF is in full compliance with the Good Operating Practices Standards of the National Health Council, meets the strong and comprehensive standards of the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance and has been awarded the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence.
Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance
According to the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance, its Standards for Charity Accountability were developed to assist donors in making sound giving decisions and to foster public confidence in charitable organizations. The standards, which exceed government regulations, seek to encourage fair and honest solicitation practices, to promote ethical conduct by charitable organizations and to advance support of philanthropy.
Independent Charities of America
The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
National Health Council
Founded in 1920, the National Health Council (NHC) is a private, nonprofit organization that supports and advocates on behalf of the voluntary health movement. NHC has adopted a set of good operating practices to ensure that its voluntary health agency members maintain the highest standards of organizational effectiveness and public stewardship.
